Union Battle Summary

Harrisonville, Mo., July 18, 1861. U.S. Troops under Maj. R.T. Van Horn. While this command, consisting of Co. A (Capt. Von Daun) and Co. B (Capt. Millar) of the U.S. Reserve Corps, about 150 men and 10 citizens, was halted in the edge of a wood 5 miles north of Harrisonville, it was attacked by some 300 Confederates at 2 p.m. Fighting was kept up until dark, when Van Horn fell back to an open field. At 2 o'clock in the morning camp was broken and the command marched to join that of Maj. Dean at West Point. The Casualties were 1 killed and 1 wounded on the Union side and 2 of the enemy killed.
