Regimental History
Sixty-second (Consolidated) Illinois Infantry. — Col., Lewis C. True; Lieut.- Col., Lewis C. True; Maj., Guy S. Alexander. On April 10, 1865, the remaining veterans and recruits of the original organization of the 62nd regiment were consolidated into seven companies and remained on duty at Pine Bluff, until July 28, when it moved by river to Port Gibson, Cherokee Nation, where it was stationed as a part of Brig.-Gen. Bussey's command in the District of the Frontier. It was mustered out at Little Rock, Ark., March 6, 1866, and was ordered to Springfield, Ill., for final payment and discharge.
