Major general, P. A. C. S., October 7, 1861.
Died in Charleston, S. C., December 7, 1877.

Commands.
Commanding State forces at Norfolk, Va., May 23, 1861. Commanding troops and defenses, Department of Norfolk, Va., May 26, 1861. Division composed of the brigades of Mahone, A. R. Wright, Blanchard and Armistead. June 25, 1862, commanding a division in the Army of Northern Virginia. July 14, 1862, assigned as Inspector of Artillery Ordnance in the Armies of the Confederate States. July 27, 1863, announced as Chief of Bureau of Ordnance of Trans- Mississippi Department.

Huger, Benjamin, born in South Carolina, appointed from South Carolina cadet United States Military Academy, July 1, 1821 ; graduated eighth in a class of thirty-seven.
Brevet second lieutenant, and second lieutenant, Third Artillery, July 1, 1825.
Captain of ordnance, May 30, 1862.
Major, February 15, 1855.
Brevet major, March 29, 1847, for gallant and meritorious conduct at the siege of Vera Cruz, Mexico.
Lieutenant colonel, September 8, 1847, for gallant and meritorious conduct in the battle of Molino del Rey, Mexico, and
Colonel, September 13, 1847, for gallant and meritorious conduct in the battle of Chapultepec.
Resigned April 22, 1861.
