Commands.
Brigade composed of the Ninth, Tenth and Eleventh Alabama, the Nineteenth Mississippi and Thirty-eighth Virginia Regiments Infantry, Army of Northern Virginia.
Commanding Department of Alabama and West Florida, April 28, 1862.
Division composed of the brigades of Hebert and Moore, and subsequently of the brigades of King, Waterhouse, Waul and McLain ; afterward of the brigades of Cockrell and Green.
Commanding District of the Gulf, July 2 to December 8, 1862. April, 1863, to November 20, commanding a division in Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana.
February 13, 1864, assigned command of Damopolis, Ala.

Forney, John Horace, born in North Carolina, appointed from Alabama cadet United States Military Academy, July 1, 1848; graduated twenty-second in a class of forty-three.
Brevet second lieutenant, Seventh Infantry, July 1, 1852.
Second lieutenant, October 24, 1853; transferred to Tenth Infantry, March 3, 1855.
First lieutenant, August 25, 1855.
Resigned January 23, 1861.
