First Brigade, composed of the First Maryland, Tenth and Thirteenth Virginia, and Second Tennessee Regiments.
Commanding Department of Richmond, Virginia, April — , 1863, to March 23, 1864.
September 25, 1864, assigned Chief of Artillery of Army of Tennessee.

Elzey, Arnold, born in Maryland, appointed from Maryland cadet United States Military Academy, July 1, 1833; graduated thirty-third in a class of fifty as (Arnold E. Jones).
Second lieutenant Second Artillery, July 1, 1837.
First lieutenant, November 12, 1839.
Regimental adjutant, December 8, 1847, to January 11, 1848.
Captain, February 14, 1849.
Brevet captain, August 20, 1847, for gallant and meritorious conduct in the battles of Contreras and Churubusco, Mexico.
Resigned April 25, 1861.
